Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand is an American singer and film and theatre actress. She has won two Academy Awards, nine Grammy Awards, four Emmy Awards and a Special Tony Award. She is one of the most commercially and critically successful female entertainers in modern entertainment history and one of the best selling solo recording artists in the US, with RIAA-certified shipments of over 71 million albums. She is the highest ranking female artist on the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) Top Selling Artists list, and has the widest span (34 years) between her first and latest Top 10 albums of any female recording artist. She has released 50 Gold albums, 30 Platinum albums, and 15 Multi-Platinum albums.
Kenny Ortega was the writer and assistant director for Streisand’s Timeless: The Concert Tour. It began with the Millenium Concert on New Year’s Eve 1999, which ended up being the highest grossing single concert in Las Vegas history to date. Streisand decided to take this concert on the road for an 8-day tour of Australia, Los Angeles & New York. The tour grossed a record breaking $70 million and drew audiences of 200,000 for only 10 shows. A 2-disc live album of the concert entitled Timeless: Live in Concert was released in 2000. It entered the US Billboard charts at number 21 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. February 2001 saw the release of Timeless the DVD, which debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Top Music Video Sales chart and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.
