The HIStory World Tour was the third and final world concert tour by Michael Jackson as a solo artist, covering Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Hawaii from September 7, 1996 to October 15, 1997. The tour, which grossed a total of $163.5 million, included a total of 82 concerts attended by 4,500,000 fans. The average attendance for each concert on the tour was 48,638. The tour was staged and designed by Kenny Ortega, working directly with the late Michael Jackson, who acted as his own Artistic Director and Choreographer.
Like his military attire, to put together this extravagant production it almost had to be organized like a military operation with 160 people working behind the scenes and 43 trucks carrying 12 tons of equipment. In every city another 200 professional stage hands and 200 security officers were hired locally. It became one of the largest world concert tours.
