The Pointer Sisters
The Pointer Sisters are an American Pop/R&B recording act from Oakland, California that achieved mainstream success during the 1970s and 1980s. They had thirteen Billboard Top 40 albums that generated twenty-five Billboard Top 40 singles, resulting in winning a few American Music Awards and Grammy Awards.
Kenny Ortega choreographed their video "I’m So Excited" (1982). The song was selected as one of the "Songs of the Century" by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), ranked as #264 out of 365 songs. Upon its first release in 1982, it peaked at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #46 on the Billboard Black Singles chart in the U.S. However, two years later, when the Pointers were experiencing massive success with the album Break Out, the song was added and re-released. It subsequently reached #9 on the Billboards. The song can be heard in many movies such as National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), Deceptions (1985), Working Girl (1988), Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993) and The Nutty Professor (1996).
