Xanadu
Kenny Ortega was one of the choregraphers for the musical-fantasy film Xanadu, one of the last major motion pictures featuring his mentor Gene Kelly.
The musical film is about a frustrated artist Sonny Malone (played by Michael Beck), who is mesmorized by a photo of a kissing girl as he is painting an album cover. As he is searching for who this mysterious girl is, he meets up with an older gentleman Danny McGuire (played by Gene Kelly). The two of them strike up a friendship, and end up opening up a disco roller rink together. Sonny finally gets to meet the kissing girl on the album cover named Kira (played by Olivia-Newton John), but she reveals that she is a supernatural being, a Greek muse. She is there to inspire him and other men to achieve their dreams and can’t fall in love with him since he is a mortal. Danny tells Sonny not to accept this situation so Sonny follows Kira to her father Zeus to try to persuade him to allow Kira to be with a mortal but he is sent back home where a Kira look-a-like is there to seduce him.
