High School Musical 3: Senior Year
The success of the first two High School Musicals, brought the third installment of the Disney franchise to the big screen. High School Musical 3: Senior Year, directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega, also included the original actors as the characters everyone grew to love: Troy (played by Zac Efron), Gabriella (played by Vanessa Hudgens), Taylor (played by Monique Coleman), Chad (played by Corbin Bleu), Ryan (played by Lucas Grabeel) and Sharpay (played by Ashley Tisdale).
This latest sequel follows high school seniors Troy and Gabriella, who are faced with the ultimate prospect of being separated after graduating from East High. Joined by the rest of their Wildcat friends, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes, and fears about the future.
The film opened on October 24, 2008 creating a box office record of the largest grossing opening weekend for a musical film. The movie grossed a total of $252 million worldwide, exceeding everyone’s expectations. With a much larger production budget, the film was able to capture the story with more effects, and was noted in its reception from critics.
